Traffic chaos forces roadworks rethink

4.33.00pm GMT Tue 27th Feb 2007

After gridlock on local roads, action from Cllr Chris Whately-Smith has brought a suspension of roadworks in Gallows Hill. The works by National Grid Gas had caused traffic chaos in Hunton Bridge, Abbots Langley and Kings Langley, as their placement and timing caused tailbacks on several roads and blocked the narrow Station Road railway bridge.

Chris said, " I understand that highways have refused permission for the temporary lights to start north of the bridge. Traffic was therefore backed up all the way under the bridge, making it impossible for anyone travelling north to move". I have been assured that next time, there will be measures taken to ensure traffic in all directions has a chance to proceed".
