The building of the new Woodside Leisure Centre is going well and the project is still on course to open in mid-2008.

The centre is being built by Watford Council, in a partnership with Three Rivers that has been praised by the Audit Commission.

The Woodside project contains a number of sustainable 'green' measures, including a ground source heat pump, rainwater recycling and, subject to planning permission, a solar thermal array for both buildings to generate electricity directly from sunlight.

Webcams have been installed by Watford and residents can now follow the construction progress of both state of the art leisure centres online by visiting http://snipurl.com/1kf8c.

The new facilities at Woodside will include:

  • An eight-lane, 25 metre competition swimming pool & a learner pool

  • An eight court sports hall

  • All weather pitches

  • A 100 station gym fitness suite & a dance studio

  • Squash courts

  • Cafeé, function room & crèche
