Chris urges end to Hunton Bridge lorry madness

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 1st Jul 2007

LibDem Cllr Chris Whately-Smith has once again urged the County Council to take action to prevent lorries seeking impossible short cuts through Hunton Bridge.

Chris said, "There have always been a few lorries who do not realise that they cannot access the M25 or A41 at Hunton Bridge due to the low railway bridge, but the problem has been made much worse by sat-navs. I watch them swearing as they realise they can't get though south way, then head down, either Lauderdale or Hamilton before turning again at the second low bridge as they then have to go back up into Abbots Langley.

"The railway bridge in Hunton Bridge that was refurbished only 3 weeks ago already has chunks out of the new brickwork from unsuitable vehicles forcing their way through".

Chris has asked for signs to be erected on main roads in the area, pointing out where there are low bridges and no through roads. He has also asked for signs at the South Way roundabout, showing that there is no access to M25 for large vehicles and showing large lorries the route to use to the M25.
