An application to intensify use of the scrap yard in Railway Terrace will be considered by the County Council on 6th November.

ASM Metals have bought the existing business and also extra land to extend the operation. Currently there are two buildings, a site office and security building. These will be rebuilt, with an additional open fronted 'depolluting unit'.

The depolluting unit strips out fluid, oil, petrol, break-fluid, tyres and non-metal parts from the vehicles until they are only left with the metal shell parts which are crushed into a square shaped parcel. Mobile balers with grabbers will come and take these away.

The aim of the new owners is to upgrade modernise the operation and intensify the process. However local LibDem councillors are concerned that the greater number of vehicles using the site will mean more noise and disruption for this Green Belt site. Three Rivers council have formally objected to the proposals and it is hoped that the County Council will support local councillors and residents and refuse the proposals.
