Labour slammed over Woodside leisure hypocrisy6.58.00pm GMT Wed 27th Feb 2008 Leavesden LibDem councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst has slammed the leader of the Three Rivers Labour councillors, Kerron Cross, for continuing to oppose facilities at the new Woodside leisure centre. The centre, which opens later this year, has been built by Watford Council in partnership with Three Rivers District Council, in order to provide leisure facilities within easy reach of the Abbots Langley area. The LibDem budget, approved last month, put money into the budget to once again pay for free swimming for young people in the school holidays and free gym use at leisure centres in Rickmansworth and South Oxhey, and for Three Rivers residents at the new Woodside centre when it opens. However South Oxhey councillor Cross spoke against this and he and the rest of the Labour group voted against the leisure provision at Woodside for Three Rivers' residents being the same as that in South Oxhey. Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst said, "This is total hypocrisy. The Labour group want free and cheap facilities to be provided for residents of South Oxhey, but not for residents of Abbots Langley and Leavesden. No wonder Labour received less than 10% of the vote in the last local elections".
