Three Rivers cuts crime - again!

7.01.56pm GMT Wed 5th Mar 2008

Three Rivers Council's much-acclaimed Community Safety Partnership with the local police is bringing down crime across the district. The report for the nine months to December shows that total crime is down across Three Rivers by 26%.

Three Rivers was already the lowest-crime district in Hertfordshire, which is one of the lowest-crime counties in England - so these numbers are all the more pleasing.

Anti-Social Behaviour is down by more than a third so far this year - that's a reduction of more than 2,000 incidents.

For other categories, the numbers of incidents are much lower to start with, but there are similar reductions in criminal damage (down 30%), domestic burglary (down 22%) and vehicle crime (down 41%).

The figure for violent crime is also slightly down, from an already-low base.

Cllr Chris Whately-Smith said "I get many complaints from residents who rightly object to criminal damage and other anti-social behaviour. Three Rivers and the local police are taking this extremely seriously, and we are starting to make an impact. Of course we cannot be complacent and we will never be able to say that the issue of crime has been completely solved. It is vital that residents report all crimes, either on the non-emergency number of 0845 3300 222."
