Former Labour minister says Claire Ward under 'Doomsday' threat from LibDems12.23.00am GMT Mon 24th Mar 2008
Former Labour Government Minister Charles Clarke has listed Watford's MP Claire Ward 21st in a 'Doomsday' list of seats that Labour will lose on a swing of just 1.5% at the next General Election. Mr Clarke lists the seat as being vulnerable to be lost to the Liberal Democrat candidate Sal Brinton. The seats could be lost by Labour if a total of just 7,417 voters change their votes to the party in second place. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has an overall majority of 67. However, the abolition of six Labour-held seats and other boundary changes favouring the Conservatives mean that he will go into the next election defending a notional majority of just 47. The loss of 24 seats, including Watford will lead to Labour losing its overall majority and probably a hung Parliament. The list can be seen in full at http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/doomsdaymemo.pdf.
